I kept glancing at Bishop in the driver’s seat. In contrast to me, he seemed to be completely at peace with himself and the world, while I hardly knew which of my problems was the most urgent.

Aside from the fact that I had realized just how much danger I was in last night in Stan’s car, I had no idea what was going to happen with my life. So far I had more or less successfully suppressed the fact that my father was dead. I had no living relatives left and, as I assessed the situation, no friends either. Only Bishop was by my side at the moment and with him you never knew what he was going to do from one second to the next.

That took me straight to my next dilemma: I was about to beg him for sex. Although I had hoped that my cravings would cool down during the night, the exact opposite is what happened. I had already been fantasizing about what sex with him would be like the whole trip.

“How far do we want to go today?”

“As far as possible. In any case until after sunset, then we’ll find another motel.”

I nodded because my throat was suddenly completely constricted. A motel meant another night in bed with him. I’d never begged for sex before, but I sensed that if we didn’t get to Vegas fast enough, that would likely change soon.

At the same time, I was annoyed that, of all the problems I had, I was focusing most on sex. I really did have other things to worry about. I bit my lip and grabbed the Dymphna medal on the chain next to the USB stick.
